Holly’s favorite design feature: “The natural materials. It’s an authentic, high-quality version of something you often see, but the nicer quality provides depth.”
The Story
These homeowners had lived in their home for 5 years, and were ready to upgrade their builder-grade primary bathroom to have a luxury spa feel. Since they were already very familiar with the space, they knew exactly what they wanted: lots of marble.
But you can’t use the same marble on the floors, walls, and countertops without the space feeling like a monochromatic box. So instead, Holly Thompson Design was able to design the luxury marble bathroom the homeowners wanted, while using different shapes and hues of the marble to differentiate between the materials. As a result, the room feels like it has a lot of texture and depth. For example, for the shower surround, Holly used a running bond pattern with the marble blocks so you can see the variations in the stone. For the flooring, the team installed marble subway tiles in a herringbone pattern, and on the shower floor it was a hexagonal marble tile.
Real Materials in the Luxury Marble Bathroom
Holly’s favorite part of this project was the opportunity to use natural materials. Rather than faux marble, the materials are authentic, which provide depth and high quality to the space that will last for years. The bathtub is by Victoria & Albert and made from volcanic ash, while the custom vanities have inset doors and valences for toekicks.
One of the best parts of this luxury marble bathroom is that it’s a real solution for regular people with a real budget. To be able to splurge on elements like the tub and cabinets, the homeowners decided to save by retaining the existing glass block window, lighting, and mirrors. Holly helped the couple decide where to save and splurge so they could have the ultimate look they loved while staying within their budget.
